Please give us a short summary of your website?
The site is a 60 page summary of what Scientology is and has to offer. Scientology is such a huge subject, and with so much written on the subject from all angles, I wondered how it could be made easier to read and be assimilated. So I tried to make the web site simple, but also aesthetic, and using my home of Australia as a backdrop. All the photos as headers, over 60 of them, are all originals by our members.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I saw that computers are fast and one could see where the internet was going, and it surpasses ALL other media now. It was time for me to get my passion - Scientology - into that medium that has been revolutionizing the world.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
It was launched four weeks ago, very much as it is now. But it is still growing.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
It is the name of our organization.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
It has very good essays, and is easy to read, and is aesthetic.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
I would like to sell books from it so people could read about Scientology in the quiet of their own home, and from those books, think for themselves. Scientology can raise iq, and I have done it with lectures while administering IQ tests before and after to 5,000 people. It is an amazing subject and nothing in the past has come close to it. I would like others to read books on the subject and make up their own minds.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
The more time I put in, I am sure the more successful it will be. But the site is a passion and cannot truly be weighed up against some projected balance.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
No changes would be expected.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Learning html.
What has been your biggest challenge?
To spend so much time on the project, but at the same time continue running the church.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
through our own members.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
It has shown that not as many people trawl the internet as I had initially expected. However, I am certain that will increase markedly over the next few years. As prices of computer go down, and computers become more accessable, internet usage will increase markedly.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
Only four weeks, but it will continue for some time.
