Life is not worth living without a goal, and a goal is not achievable unless and untill there is a pathway leading to the same. Of course sometimes there might be more than one pathways to achieve the same goal. When the goal is not a simple one but as elevated as to discover the real essence of life itself, then you should certainly choose your pathways with care.
