Native Americans were called Indians because Christopher Columbus thought he arrived in the east Indies while seeking India

These people that are often referred to as American Indians, Amerindians, Amerinds, or Red Indians. They are indigenous to America and have religious and cultural education even before the whites came.

Indians from Asia is now commonly referred as the Asian Indians to avoid confusion.
