There is a city ordinance in the city of Montevideo that restricts the issuance of liquor licenses within 300 feet in any religious facility. But despite this ordinance, the City Council manages to grant the request of a religious facility to operate in its downtown area where restaurants and other entertainment establishments are located. The Iglesia Christiana Rayo de Luz church were now permitted to operate in the former City Side building at 301 South First Street, at the same time exempts the location for the city ordinance, making it possible to still issue liquor licenses in the establishments near the church vicinity.
